City Feed and Supply
City Feed and Supply is a wee little store so this will be a wee little entry.
This blink-and-you'll-miss-it corner shop is a favorite among JP residents and very close to Bunches' house, so I stopped to pick up some breakfast on the way back from a run. Bagels, muffins, baked goods, coffee drinks, and tea are sold at the counter as well as speciality sandwiches like the Prosciutto di Parma (mozzarella, tomato, basil, olive oil, balsamic vinegar; $7) or the Eight Fold Path (tofu, hoisin sauce, cilantro, mint, carrots, cucumber, peanuts; $5). In addition, there are two tiny rows of pastas, fine teas, salad dressings, jams, and dried goods and a wall refrigerator with all varieties of soft drinks and juices. Dog-lovers may find interest hand-painted Jamaica Plain doggies food dishes.
I grabbed a blueberry muffin ($1.60), one of many wonderful wares brought daily to City Feed and Supply from Haley House and skedaddled home to eat it before Bunches started to worry. The muffin top was coated with tiny sugar crystals, making it slightly crunchy while the body was stuff ed with oozy blueberries in soft sweet cake. Although the muffin was larger than a clenched fist, I could have easily eaten two more, given the wonderful fresh texture and flavorful berries.
City Feed and Supply may not warrant a special trip to JP, but it very much deserves its local business. I give it accolades for being cute and serving great muffins. I need to look into this Haley House place…
